Mumbai – The Maharashtra government has postponed its order to make Hindi mandatory as a third language for students from class 1 to 5 in Marathi and English medium schools. State School Education Minister Dada Bhusus said on Tuesday that a revised government resolution (GR) will be issued in this regard. The Maharashtra government has taken drastic measures on the issue after strict opposition from the opposition.

Last week, it was decided to make Hindi mandatory as a third language for students from class 1 to 5 in Marathi and English medium schools in the state. At the same time, the opposition strongly opposed this. The government did not bow down initially. But on the other hand, there was a possibility that Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray could join hands on the issue.

Therefore, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced a day before that Hindi would not be made mandatory and students will be given any regional language option as the third language.

Now Education Minister Dada Bhusus has also admitted that Hindi is not mandatory as the third language according to the new education policy. Children will be given another language option.

The language counseling committee of the Government of Maharashtra also urged the government to withdraw this decision.
