Nagpur: A family from Maharashtra’s Nagpur district is grappling with the aftermath of a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 28 individuals, marking it as one of the gravest civilian killings in recent times. The man, who was vacationing with his wife and son, recounted how a mere 20-minute difference saved their lives.
“This incident happened when we had just left the place of the incident. We could hear the sound of firing for a long time. Everyone was trying to escape from the place. We were 20 minutes away from the actual spot. We did not look back as we just wanted to escape from there,” the man, visiting from Nagpur, told the news agency ANI.
His wife, who suffered a leg fracture amidst the chaos, remembered the scene vividly, “People were yelling, ‘they are firing!’ We just ran. There was no room to move.” Eyewitness accounts further detailed the horrifying events. Waheed, a local tour guide, recounted assisting the injured by transporting them on horseback after hearing the gunfire, and described seeing lifeless bodies on the ground.
Pahalgam, approximately 90 kilometers from Srinagar, has long been a favored tourist destination, and this shocking attack has left both the region and the nation in shock. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah labeled the incident as “much larger than anything we’ve witnessed targeting civilians in recent years,” condemning the attackers as “inhuman.”
