Google, the world’s largest tech company, has issued a warning to its billions of users. This warning is specifically released for Gmail users. Recently information was revealed that Etharium developer Nick Johnson was attacked by a cyber attack. This time hackers sent an email that looked exactly like Google email. The purpose of this email sent by hackers is to collect the user information. So now keeping all these things in mind, the company has issued a warning for its users.
Flood of rumors on social media
According to the information received, hackers are keeping an eye on Gmail users and sending fraudulent emails to gather the user information. This time the platform has used technical flaws as well as clever social engineering techniques. After this attack, there was a flood of rumors on social media and Google had to immediately release security updates. The company has clearly stated that now stop using passwords.
What is the real issue?
Indeed, the attack took place on Atherium developer Nick Johnson, who fell victim to a complex fishing attack. He received an email that looked like an official Google email. In this mail, he has been issued a legal notice. This email came from [email protected] and looked completely real, including valid DKIM signatures. It was said that this email was issued as a safety warning. But in fact it was sent by mail hackers.
In fact, hackers took advantage of a flaw in Google’s system and sent themselves real emails and then sent it to others. The purpose behind this was to steal login credentials from users. After the whole matter came to light, a round of rumors started on social media. Finally, keeping all these things in mind, Google had to issue a warning.
Google replied.
The company said, “We are aware of such targeted attacks and are implementing security measures since last week.” Google recommends users to use passwords in place of password, as the passki is attached to the user’s device and is impossible to reach the account without that device. Therefore, Google has said that the passki is more secure than the password. Additionally, user data can be protected using passki.
Why is the need for a pass?
These days, passwords and even SMS-two-factor authentication (2FA) can be easily hacked. Attackers can steal the user’s password and then SMS code and login from any device. But Paski only works when the account is reached using the safety of your device (such as fingerprint or pin).
Remember these things.
- Add passes to your Gmail account.
- Use Google authentic or device-based verification instead of SMS.
- Google is slowly moving towards ending the password.
- Use Google Prompt, it is safe and easy.
- Google never directly contacts users regarding any safety issue.
