BCCI Central Contract: The BCCI announced the new Central Contract on 21 April. Many changes have been made in the new contract, the most important of which is the return of wicketkeeper-batsman Ishaan Kishan and batsman Shreyas Iyer. Both players were freed from contract last year. Shreyas Iyer has performed brilliantly for Team India last year, but many questions are being raised about Ishaan Kishan’s return.
How did Ishaan Kishan join the central contract?
The new central contract declared by BCCI is for a period from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025. Now Ishaan Kishan has not played a single match during this time. He played his last match for Team India on 28 November 2023. In such a situation, people are asking how the player who remained out of Team India for one and a half years got this contract? Now a BCCI official has given the reason for this.
The BCCI officer gave an interesting reply, saying, “The duration of the new central contract is from October 1, 2024 to 30 September 2025.” But for this the performance from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024 has been evaluated. Ishaan (2 World Cup matches) and Shreyas have played 15 ODIs and some Test matches in the 2023-24 season, so they have been kept in their respective categories.
Rohit-Kohli still in A+ grade
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, who have already said goodbye to T20 format in the central contract, have been retained in A+ grade, while the rule is that the A+ grade includes the same players who represent Team India in all three formats. The reason for this is also mentioned. The official said Kohli, Rohit and Jadeja played the T20 World Cup final in June 2024 and were active in all formats at that time. They should be placed in A+ grade on this technical grounds.
