Bengaluru: Pallavi Om Prakash, wife of former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, was arrested on Monday, April 21, in connection with his murder in Bengaluru. The arrest came just hours after their son, Kartikesh, filed a complaint with the police, accusing his mother and sister of being involved in the killing.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has now taken over the investigation, while Pallavi, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. The 64-year-old cited “domestic violence” as the motive behind the crime, as per a report by News18.

‘Domestic Violence’ Was the Motive Behind Murder

The 68-year-old retired IPS officer was found dead on Sunday (April 20) evening in a pool of blood at his residence in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout. Police revealed that a violent argument escalated into a deadly assault, during which Pallavi reportedly threw chilli powder in her husband’s face before stabbing him multiple times in the chest and abdomen.

According to News18, Pallavi confessed to reporters during a visit to the crime scene that “domestic violence” was the reason behind her extreme step. Reports also revealed that she called a friend on video shortly after the murder and said, “I have killed the monster.”

Preliminary investigations suggested that a broken bottle and knife were also found near the body. The deceased was rushed to St John’s Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Domestic Dispute Over A Property

The couple had a history of domestic disputes, with tensions reportedly peaking over a property in Dandeli. A few months ago, Pallavi had even staged a protest outside the HSR Layout police station when her complaint wasn’t accepted.

Further complicating the case is Pallavi’s reported diagnosis of schizophrenia, for which she was undergoing treatment.

In his statement, Kartikesh alleged, “My mother Pallavi and my sister Kriti used to fight with my father often. I strongly suspect that they are involved in the murder of my father.”

The former top cop was cremated with full state honours on Monday. “The police are doing their job, and I have full faith in them,” said Kartikesh after performing the last rites of his father.
