Chhattisgarh: A man stabs his milkman 22 times over an alleged affair, with some media outlets misrepresenting the crime as communal | Representational Image

Raipur: A man, Mohd Mobin stabbed his milkman Jaipal Sahu 22 times in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur in broad daylight for having an alleged extra-marital affair with his wife. As per the media reports, the growing suspicion fuelled the attacker to torture his wife, and the victim lady fed up of physical and mental harassment left him abandoning his home.

The infuriated man, carrying out a lethal attack on the milkman, escaped the scene and raided the house where she has took refuge in intention to assassinate or teach her a lesson for adultery. Luckily, she was not there. After the accused attacked the milkmaid Sahu, police carried out raids and nabbed the attacker. The accused also admitted before he carried out the attack because he had suspicion that his wife is in an illicit relationship with the milkman.

The crime he committed is serious in nature must be condemned in harshest way unfortunately the saddest part of the whole story is despite there is police action, the accused was nabbed, a section of social media and some mainstream media outlets portrayed the whole incident as communal fight where a Muslim Community man attacked on Hindu man due to his faith. They tried to paint the whole incident in communal colours, putting existing peace in the society at stake.

It sent the wrong message in society and tried to set up a highly negative false narrative in the society, which can further damage the peace and brotherhood in the society. Despite Chhattisgarh being a BJP ruled state, it has a history of peaceful coexistence among the various communities including Hindu and Muslims.

As far as demography is concerned, Hindus are in majority in the state. Even in the Chhattisgarh’ state assembly, Hindus are in majority. From Lawmakers to enforcers’ majority of the chunk are Hindus. Except for a few incidents, communal clashes rarely hit headlines.

In the light of those records, spreading communal messages and widening the further divide in the society is not an intelligent step. Instead the media should help the government in ensuring development, peace and justice for all without creating communal flares. Put pressure so that the government agencies transparently deliver services for the purpose they are created.
