Attention Punekars! From May 1, Even Ola, Uber, Rapido Cabs To Run By The Meter – Check State Govt Approved Rates Here | Representative Image

Even as the Punekars are coming to terms with auto riders of ride-booking apps like Uber and Ola, even their cab services will charge as per meter now according to the state government-approved rates from May 1.

Senior office-bearers of the Indian Gig Workers Front told ToI about the same.

This decision was taken in a meeting of cab drivers on Friday. This will apply to around 45,000 cabs that operate under Ola, Uber, and Rapido platforms in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Baramati.

What are the rates?

The government-approved cab fares stand at ₹37 for the first 1.5 km and ₹25 per km subsequently.

So, a 10 km ride would cost approximately ₹249.50 in Pune.

The ride booking platform fare systems are currently trasitionaing with autos charging money as per meter in Pune.

Change in fare policy

Tensions between app-based and traditional auto-rickshaw drivers in Pune have intensified following Uber’s recent fare policy change, sparking passenger complaints of harassment, overcharging, and growing insecurity across the city.

These confrontations come on the heels of Uber’s revised fare policy, introduced in late March, which replaces fixed app pricing with traditional meter-based fares. While Uber claims this aligns fares with government-approved rates, commuters say the move has stripped the system of its earlier transparency and predictability.

Under the new policy, the fare shown on the Uber app is only indicative. The final fare is based on the rickshaw’s meter, raising fears of tampering and price gouging. Many commuters have shared their frustration on social media, citing incidents of overcharging and inconsistent fare calculation.
