Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): To ensure all-round development of farmers and focusing on GYAN mantra of PM Narendra Modi, the cabinet gave in principle approval for Madhya Pradesh Kisan Kalyan Mission on Tuesday.

The aim of the mission is to increase income of farmers, encourage farmers to grow climate-friendly crops, conservation of bio-diversity and traditional agriculture knowledge, ensure nutrition and food security, and provide adequate price to farmers’ produce.

Under the mission, farmer welfare-oriented schemes being run by farmer welfare and agriculture development department, horticulture, food processing department, fisheries department, animal husbandry department, cooperative department, civil supplies and consumer protection department will be brought on one platform.

Notably, the contribution of agriculture sector in state GDP is 39%. The agriculture productivity (kg per hectare) in year 2002-2003 was 1,195 which increased to 2,393 in year 2024. This is 200 per cent growth. The crop production was 224 lakh metric ton in 2002-03 and it increased to 723 MT and its growth is 323 per cent.

The mission vouches to cover 26k villages under milk collection. The milk collection and processing capacity will be increased to 50 lakh litres per day. It also aims to bring down the number of stray cattle by ushering domestic alternative of stall feeding and mineral mixture. Under the mission, climate- friendly crops will be developed. Along with farming, animal husbandry and fishery will be encouraged.

The area of horticulture will be brought to national level. Apart from this, the mission aims to increase investment in agriculture sector till 75%, to make state free from stubble burning, to increase crop insurance coverage till 50%, expansion of marketing network, to increase reach till mandis situated outside the state, etc.

Fifty per cent hike will be done in cattle productivity and to develop a network for stray cattle so that their presence on road becomes ‘Zero’. The Chief Minister will be the chairman of the general assembly of Madhya Pradesh Krishak Kalyan Mission which will be operated by the collector at the district level.

Rs 383.22 crore sanctioned

The cabinet sanctioned Rs 383.22 crore for the construction of a new hospital affiliated with Satna Medical College. Meanwhile, it also approved creation of 12 posts in the hospital affiliated with Gandhi Medical College. These posts are related to departments of paediatric, cardiology, neurology etc. Three posts of professor, three posts of co-professor, three posts of assistant professor and three posts of senior residents have been sanctioned
