At a meeting held in the BMC headquarters on Tuesday, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Iqbal Singh Chahal assured seamless coordination among government agencies, emphasising focused efforts to resolve delayed projects and improve communication with relevant authorities. He also announced that a meeting of senior officials from the concerned departments would soon be convened at the Mantralaya to discuss these projects in detail.
The state government has appointed Guardian Secretaries as coordinators to promote consistent and proactive efforts across all departments. Accordingly, Chahal has been appointed as the Guardian Secretary for Mumbai City district. On Tuesday, he chaired a joint meeting of various agencies at the BMC headquarters, which was attended by Municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, additional municipal commissioners Abhijit Bangar, Dr. Bipin Sharma, Dr. Ashwini Joshi, Dr. Amit Saini and other officials from MHADA, MMRDA, SRA, and other key agencies.
Discussions were held on the delayed MHADA, SRA, and MMRDA projects, housing schemes, and redevelopment of police colonies. Chahal stated, “The government would try to allocate funds for precautionary measures against potential landslides in hilly areas during the monsoon,” MHADA officials raised issues regarding the BDD chawl and Kamathipura projects, while MMRDA officials shared updates on the metro project.
Chahal stated, “The BMC and various authorities’ projects are interdependent, and detailed discussions will take place immediately.” He emphasised that to keep Mumbai leading in various sectors and improve citizens’ lives, all department officials must make consistent positive efforts and ensure coordination for sustainable outcomes. He further mentioned that officials from various authorities should work together to maintain coordination and a long-term vision to ensure sustainable outcomes.
