The political stir has intensified across the country over the Waqf Amendment Act. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has given a big statement about this law, saying that he is confident that the Supreme Court will not interfere in the MLA cases. Along with this, he also criticized the statement of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in which he said that this law would not be implemented in the state. Rijiju questioned whether Mamata Banerjee has the moral right to continue as the Chief Minister after such remarks.
Amendment Bill has been passed from both houses
It is worth noting that the Waqf Amendment Bill has been passed from both houses of Parliament and its notification has also been issued after the President’s approval. Despite this, many Muslim organizations and opposition parties of the country have reached the Supreme Court against this law. He has challenged the constitutional validity of this law, whose hearing is likely to begin soon.
Left Front also objected, appeal for peaceful demonstration
In West Bengal, the Left Front protested against this law, saying that this act is unconstitutional and it could affect religious harmony. Left Front president Biman Bose accused the state government of negligence in maintaining law and order and appealed to the protesters to register protests in peaceful ways.
YSRCP moves Supreme Court
The YSR Congress Party of Andhra Pradesh has also challenged the validity of this law in the Supreme Court. The party, in its petition, described it as ‘against the core structure of the Constitution’ and accused of ignoring the concerns of the Muslim community. Earlier, the Communist Party of India also filed a petition against the law.
Violence in Bhanghar, situation in Murshidabad control
Violent clashes occurred during the protest on Monday in Bhanghar, West Bengal. There was a confrontation between the supporters of the Indian Secular Front (ISF) and the police, in which many people were injured. Public property was damaged during the protest and several police vehicles were also burnt. However, the administration says that the situation in other sensitive areas like Murshidabad is now under control.
