According to Dr. Fadel Naim, Director, Al-Ahli Hospital, the hospital’s emergency room, pharmacy and nearby buildings were severely damaged in the attack. More than 100 patients and dozens of employees have been affected by this.
Israel’s claim and Hamas’s refusal
The Israeli army says it targeted Hamas’s command and control center in this hospital and killed the deputy head of a sniper cell in Hamas. However, Israel did not present any evidence in support of its claims. On the other hand, Hamas has dismissed these allegations outright.
Palm Sunday attacked, churches also destruction
Al-Ahli Hospital, operated by Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, strongly condemned the attack, saying that the attack was started on the day of ‘Palm Sunday’, the most sacred week of the Christian calendar.
In Gaza, people celebrated Palm Sunday in a golden dome church, around which there was a pile of war debris. In a video of the Associated Press, the roof of the hospital appeared surrounded by debris.
Patients had to be taken to the streets
Dr. Munir al-Bure, Director General of Gaza’s Health Ministry, said that after the explosion, the patients had to be taken out of the hospital and shifted to the streets.
The injured Mohammad Abu Nasir said, “There is no safe place left in Gaza anymore.”
Hospital temporarily closed, patients sent to other hospitals
The Health Ministry has confirmed that Al-Ahli Hospital is currently out of service and patients have been transferred to other hospitals in Gaza city.
The aid organization called Medical Aid for Palestinians said that this is the fifth attack on Al-Ahli during this war.
Violation of international law?
Significantly, hospitals get special security under international law. Despite this, Israel has laid siege and raids on them, alleging that Hamas uses these institutions for terrorist activities.
