Alot (Madhya Pradesh): Farmers in Alot are facing serious issues with wheat procurement due to full warehouses. Under Minimum Support Price (MSP) Wheat Procurement Scheme for 2025-26, the cooperative credit institution responsible for buying wheat has raised concerns about the lack of space.
They submitted a letter to sub-divisional officer (Revenue) Sunil Jaiswal, warning that the current situation could disrupt the procurement process.
The letter highlighted that the areas outside the warehouses are not suitable for storing wheat. With soil and stones scattered around, there is a risk of contamination. If wheat is stored in the open, it could get wet if it rains, leading to spoilage. This could result in the wheat being rejected during transportation, affecting farmers’ payments.
Currently, farmers are experiencing long wait at procurement centres, with queues of 50-60 tractors at locations like Sherpurkhurd, Dharola, and Piplyasisodia. The letter requested that alternative warehouses be provided to ease the situation and ensure smooth procurement.
Farmers have also expressed the need for more warehouses. Laxman Singh Rathore, Anil Sharma from Dhaturia and other farmers have shared their frustrations about waiting in line for two days in the heat. They pointed out that many warehouses in Alot section are empty, but the District Supply Department has not rented them out, contributing to the ongoing problem. The officials have forwarded the letter to the District Supply Officer, District Cooperative Bank and Civil Supply Corporation for further action. Farmers hope for a quick resolution to improve the procurement process and reduce their hardships.
