Kolkata: Several Hindu families from Dhulian town in the Samserganj block in Jangipur subdivision of Murshidabad district in West Bengal on Sunday were seen fleeing to Malda after their houses and properties were attacked by Muslims protesting against the WAQF (Amendment) bill.

In several videos that surfaced many Hindu families were seen crying over their ‘uncertain’ futures.

A man who took shelter in a school in Malda said that he was left penniless as just to save his and his family’s life they crossed a river to reach Malda leaving everything behind in Murshidabad.

Pankaj Tamang, SDO of Malda was seen handing food to those who fled to Malda and was seen giving assurance to the Hindu families.

A woman who was seen weeping narrated how her house was set on fire by Muslim mobs.

“Nothing happened to the Muslim houses. Only Hindu houses were targeted and were put on fire,” narrated the woman.

Taking to X, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said, “More than 400 Hindus from Dhulian, Murshidabad driven by fear of religiously driven bigots were forced to flee across the river & take shelter at Par Lalpur High School, Deonapur-Sovapur GP, Baisnabnagar, Malda. Religious persecution in Bengal is real. Appeasement politics of TMC has emboldened radical elements. Hindus are being hunted, our people are running for their lives in their own land! Shame on the State Govt for allowing this breakdown of law & order. I urge the Central Paramilitary Forces deployed in the District, the State Police and the district administration to ensure the safe return of these displaced Hindus & protect their lives from this jihadist terror. Bengal is burning. The social fabric is torn. Enough is enough.”

Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, MP of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to provide security at the bordering areas.

“The situation of West Bengal is like Kashmir. Once Hindus were attacked in Kashmir, now the same is happening in Bengal,” said the BJP MP.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh alleged that BJP is creating ‘unrest’ in Bengal.

“When Manipur burns the BJP doesn’t react and unnecessarily BJP is trying to create unrest in Bengal,” added Ghosh.

Meanwhile, DGP Rajeev Kumar who is currently at Samserganj at Murshidabad said that the ‘situation is under control’. However, 17 companies of central forces and nine companies of BSF are deployed in Murshidabad.
