‘Kam Se Kam Jail Mein Paani To Milega,’ MP’s Khandwa Residents Stage Protest Over 15-Day Long Water Crisis; Block Highway | Representative Image

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The major protest broke out in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district on Sunday over severe water crisis and repeated bursting of the main pipe line of Narmada Jal Yojana.

Angered over non-availability of water for over 15 days, people blocked the Khandwa Dedhtalai Highway, also frustated women took to the roads demanding water.

In no time, the wheels of vehicles stopped on both sides of the road.

The women who blocked the road said they have not received water for the last 15 days.

They did not receive water on Sunday even when the Narmada pipe line was fixed. As the reason, they were told there is no schedule for your area today.

SDM warned the people

On receiving information about the jam on the state highway, Kotwali TI Ashok Chauhan reached the spot. He requested the residents not to block the road but people did not listen.

The women were adamant on meeting the municipal corporation officials to the spot. In a short while, corporation deputy commissioner Sachin Sitole and SDM Bajrang Bahadur arrived.

The SDM warned the people that if the blockade was not removed, protestors would be sent to jail.

On this people got angry and reprimanded the officials.

Assured to provide water soon

The women said, “Take us to jail, at least we will get water over there.’

For about an hour, the officials tried to calm people down. Later, the blockade removed after Deputy Commissioner Sitole assured to start the supply of Narmada water soon.

It is known that the main pipeline of the Narmada Jal Yojana has burst four times in nine days. Due to this, the water distribution system in the entire city has completely gone haywire.
