New Delhi: Tahwwur Hussain Rana, the main accused in the Mumbai 26/11 terror attacks, has been extradited to India. On reaching India, the NIA team officially took him into custody. He was brought to Delhi by special aircraft. He was then produced in the NIA court. After 19 years, Mumbai has returned to India, the mastermind of the 26/11 terror attack.

Headley, who spoke many languages, first came to Mumbai to Reiki on 14 September 2006. In 2006, he changed his name from Dawood Gilani to David Headley to enter India. Rana also helped Headley to get a five-year multi-entry visa from the Indian Consulate in Chicago. According to the NIA, Rana first helped Headley to open a branch of his immigration service firm ‘First World Immigration Services’ in Mumbai.

 

Headley used it to spy on various places in the city, including Taj Hotel, Oberoi Hotel and Nariman House. He then made around eight rounds in Mumbai and took pictures, maps and drawings of places targeted by 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists.

Information was also provided to ISI.

Headley was in touch with Rana during each meeting and made him aware of every development on the phone. The NIA has also submitted emails sent by Headley to Rana. In which he is seen asking for instructions. After every visit to Mumbai, Headley used to go to Pakistan to inform his Lashkar-e-Taiba and ISI officers and hand over the documents he had collected to him.

Headley’s second wife in Mumbai

In 2007, Headley came to Mumbai with his second wife Faiza Outlaw. He stayed at Taj, Oberoi and Trident Hotels. There he recorded videos of hotels. According to the NIA, Headley specifically reconnated the second floor of the Taj. In March 2008, Rana had tasked Headley to travel by boat around the Mumbai port and identify safe places to land terrorists. Headley Faiza Outlaw was also brought to India during this visit.
