During 2023-24, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a donation of ₹ 2,243.947 crore in an amount of ₹ 20,000 or more. According to the report given to the Election Commission, this amount is about seven times more than the amount of ₹ 281.48 crore collected by the opposition Congress party in 1994.
Six national political parties
Apart from BJP and Congress, four other major national political parties include Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), National People’s Party (NPEP), Communist Party of India (M) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The BSP has announced that it has not received more than ₹ 20,000 donations during the financial year 2023-24.
Most of the donations from Delhi
Delhi made the highest donation to national political parties in 2023-24, which was ₹ 989.20 crore. After this, there was a donation of ₹ 404.512 crore from Gujarat and ₹ 334.079 crore from Maharashtra. Donation of ₹ 142.7 crore was received from Tamil Nadu and ₹ 112.9 crore from Telangana.
AAP received donations
Other states and union territories donated a total of ₹ 554.7 crore to national political parties in 2023-24. According to the ADR report, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has received a donation of ₹ 7,000 from a donor from the United States.

The ADR report also mentioned that due to incomplete or undisclosed information given by political parties, a total donation of ₹ 6.062 crore could not be received by any state or union territory.
