Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Addressing their meeting at the Mantralaya on Monday, Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya asked Mayors and Municipal Corporation Commissioners to take a firm stand against bidders who are quick to pick up tenders but do not pay attention to the quality of work they deliver.
He said that while giving legal status to an illegal colony, it must be ensured that the move does not create an impediment in the development of cities. Another issue that came up in the meeting was reducing the electricity bills of urban bodies by using solar energy.
Every Municipal Corporation was asked to come up with an action plan in this regard. It was also decided that Municipal Corporations wouldprofessionally operate transport companies and ensure the security of citizens. The installation of timers on streetlights also came up.
The meeting was informed that a proposal to increase the provision of compounding till June 30 has been sent to the government.
The slab to fix the rate of service charge will be prepared at the directorate level, it was decided. Also, elected representatives of urban bodies will be sent to other urban bodies of the country regularly for studying best practices.
A detailed discussion was also held on making municipal corporations self-reliant.
Mayors may get gunmen for security
Many security-related issues were discussed in the meeting. Later on, it was decided that the home department would be approached for the provision of a gunman to mayors for their security.
Minister calls for promotion of sports
Sports Minister Vishvas Sarang asked Mayors to promote community sports in urban bodies, for which his department will give full help.
Prominent steps would be the establishment of Fit India Club and organising various sports activities at the community level. Sarang was speaking at a meeting of all the mayors of the state for the promotion of sports at Tatya Tope Stadium in thecity on Monday.
