Mumbai and it’s metropolitan region (MMR) witnessed gusty winds, while some areas experienced rains with thunderstorms on Friday evening. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai on 4.25 pm had issued a Nowcast warning for rainfall within thunderstorms. Although no heavy rain was recorded, the unseasonal showers brought temporary relief from the humid conditions.
However, the relief won’t stay long as the IMD has also issued a Yellow Alert for ‘Hot and Humid conditions’ for the next four days for the Konkan region. The districts where the warning is issued includes Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri.
On Friday, Mumbai’s Santacruz recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 27.5 degrees Celsius, which was as much as 4.5 degrees Celsius above normal. “During the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, Mumbai experience cloudy skies, because of which the humidity and minimum temperature increased. The hot and humid conditions will remain for the next three to four days,” IMD Mumbai Director Shubhangi Bhute said.
As per IMD weather forecast for the next 48 hours for Mumbai City and Suburbs, the maximum and minimum temperatures would be 36 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively and skies will be partly cloudy with hot and humid very likely to prevail. While as per the district weather forecast, the Yellow alert for Hot and Humid conditions for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad is given from Saturday, April 5 to Tuesday, April 8.
The gusty winds on Friday evening also resulted in brief disruption in Central railway services causing inconvenience to the commuters. Train services on the Kalyan-Kasara section were disrupted as a foreign object got entangled in the overhead wire between Atgaon and Thansit stations, likely carried by gusty winds. All local and long-distance services resumed after a brief distribution.

On Tuesday, Mumbai witnessed its first showers of the year, while light rainfall was recorded at isolated locations on Mumbai suburbs and MMR on Thursday too. This week, several regions in state experienced moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and hailstorm. The state witnesses the unseasonal rains in March-April every year as it enters to peak of summer season.
