The Supreme Court has said that if a person is a criminal, then he should also get some security and respect according to the law.
The court has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) of all states and union territories to strictly follow the legal rights of the detained persons. The court urged all the DGPs to follow the arrest guidelines. Hearing a case, a bench of Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra said that the police is an important unit of the state and emphasized that public confidence in the police should be maintained for the safety of society and individuals.
The Supreme Court questioned the checklist submitted by the Haryana Police related to the arrests and said that the checklist was not prepared seriously. A person has accused the Haryana Police of illegally detaining him and physically torturing him in custody. The matter in this regard has reached the Supreme Court. The petitioner’s counsel told the court that the victim’s brother had sent an email to the Superintendent of Police at around 11.24 am on the same day and complained about the arrest of his brother. After this, an FIR was lodged at around 1.30 pm. The court said that the police used excessive force in this case without any reason. Every person should be impartially and legal behavior. If such an incident happens in future, strict action will be taken.
