Bollywood’s famous choreographer Terence Lewis has recently made a big disclosure about the world of reality shows in an interview. He has admitted that these shows are not completely uncomfortable, but many things are already planned. In an interview given to Pinkvilla, he said that many “special moments” shown on TV are not really real, but are deliberately composed to keep the audience tied.
How true in reality shows, how much pretense?
Terence clearly stated that dance, judgment and talent are real, but the things that make the show more interesting and dramatic are already scripted. He said that many conversations on stage, methods of calling guests and even some emotional or fun moments are already decided.
Dance with Deepika Padukone – a planned moment
During the interview, Terence was shown an old picture, in which he was dancing with Deepika Padukone on the stage of ‘Dance India Dance Little Masters’. This photo was done when Deepika came on the show for the promotion of her film ‘Chennai Express’. Reacting to this, Terence said that such moments are not suddenly, but are already planned.
The show has planning for TRP
Terence also admitted that a lot in reality shows is done with the aim of increasing TRPs. He said that people think we perform on the stage with our mind, but the truth is that often we are asked to do so. He said that the conversation shown on TV with guests and contestants is also mostly scripted.
Demand for dramaticness – a truth
Recalling a dance moment with Deepika, Terence said that she was asked to create a special dramatic scene on the stage. Deepika was not aware of this, so she acted in that moment to make the scene look real. He said that the world of TV is very challenging – neither is the time, nor enough budget, so many times have to be decided immediately.
The reasons are becoming the choice of the audience
Terence also said that he was also pressurized several times to do such scripted moments. Giving an example of ‘India’s Best Dancer’, he said that when he was asked to plan a dramatic scene, he first objected, but when he was shown that the audience liked the audience more and raises the rating of the show, he agreed.
‘Viewers are responsible’
Terence believes that the main reason for such scripting in reality shows is the choice of the audience. He said, “It is sad, but the truth is that the audience likes the same things that are dramatic and entertaining. That is why the makers are forced to create these moments.”
