Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav presented the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) budget for the financial year 2025-26, amounting to Rs 8,175 crore.

This year’s budget, reduced by Rs 128 crore compared to the previous year, focuses on infrastructural development, digital transformation, and environmental sustainability while ensuring no new taxes or hikes in existing ones.

A First in Municipal History: Budget Reduction

For the first time in IMC’s history, the budget has been reduced instead of increasing. Last year’s proposed income was Rs 8,302.46 crore, with an expenditure of Rs 8,232.26 crore, whereas this year, income is projected at Rs 8,174.94 crore and expenditure at Rs 8,236.98 crore. Despite this reduction, the budget aligns with the city’s long-term Vision 2050 for a clean, prosperous, and self-reliant Indore.

The budget lays out significant projects focusing on infrastructure, civic amenities, and Indore’s continued status as India’s cleanest city.

Smart Urban Planning and Roads Development

Every household in Indore will receive a digital address, beginning with Ward 82 as a pilot project.

Rs 130 crore allocated for constructing ten roads under the master plan.

Beautification and development of two major intersections per assembly constituency.

Model road transformation for all main roads in each constituency, including one white-topping road per constituency.

Green belts with integrated educational, health, and sports facilities.

Rs 500 crore bond issuance for infrastructure development, with an additional Rs 500 crore for small road improvements.

Development of an ideal global garden in each ward.

Rs 80 crore allocated for bridge construction and maintenance.

Rs 11 crore earmarked for constructing overpasses at ten key locations.

A major bridge from Sirpur via Chandannagar Square to the district hospital at Rs 50 crore.

Widening of left turns at 28 major intersections, including Geeta Bhavan and MG Road.

Introduction of a modern parking system with advanced technology.

Establishment of a hawkers’ zone at Rs 15 crore.

Construction of entry gates at major city entry points.

Revolutionizing Waste Management Under Swachh Bharat Mission

Expansion beyond wet and dry waste management to focus on recycling and reuse.

Conversion of used clothes, fiber, and oil waste into reusable products.

A waste-to-charcoal project to turn RDF waste into charcoal for green energy initiatives.

Transformation of Indore Zoo into a zero-waste facility.

Digitalization of on-demand garbage collection.

Establishment of a 200 TPD solid waste management plant.

Procurement of advanced sweeping machines.

Construction of 50 smart toilets under the PPP model.

Expansion of Asia’s largest bio-CNG plant from 550 TPD to 800 TPD.

India’s first 100-ton capacity PPP model plant to convert green waste into biofuel.

Sewerage and Drainage Management

Execution of a Rs 2,134 crore project for the fourth phase of water supply improvements.

Restoration and deepening of existing water sources, along with the construction of 38 new water tanks and expanded pipeline networks.

Beautification and renovation of ancient ghats.

A 30 MLD sump well in the western region at Rs 17 crore for improved water supply.

Development of three new sewage treatment plants (STPs) and two new common effluent treatment plants (CETPs).

A new 750 MLD STP at Rs 1,100 crore.

Laying of a 30-km pipeline for treated water utilization.

Initiation of a riverfront development project from Municipal Corporation Square to Ahilya Ashram.

Installation of 500 km of new drainage pipelines.

Electrification and Street Lighting

Installation of a Rs 4.98 crore central lighting system on 20 major roads.

High-mast lighting at 21 key locations.

Rs 35 crore allocated for LED street lights and Rs 50 crore for solar energy projects.

Rs 10 crore for lighting improvements in 85 wards and parks.

Workshops and Fire Safety Improvements

Digitization of the municipal workshop.

Procurement of 100 electric door-to-door collection vehicles at Rs 100 crore.

Purchase of a 70-meter turntable ladder for high-rise fire safety.

Introduction of fire bikes for narrow-lane emergencies.

Addition of 90 new municipal vehicles, including trucks, tankers, and dumpers.

Acquisition of 10 hydraulic platforms for the electrical department.

Purchase of 20 robotic machines for the horticulture department.

Boosting Sports Infrastructure

Modernization of Nehru Stadium and nearby sports complexes with Rs 500 crore investment.

Rs 16 crore from the state government for sports infrastructure improvements.

Development of four new sports complexes at Rs 30 crore.

Rs 2 crore allocated for city-wide sports promotion.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav emphasized that this budget aligns with Indore’s vision of becoming a self-sustainable and future-ready city. By integrating digital advancements, environmental sustainability, and modern urban planning, Indore is set to maintain its reputation as a progressive metropolitan hub.
