Pune Crime: 2 BJ Medical College Officials Caught Red-Handed Accepting ₹1 Lakh Bribe, Arrested By ACB | File Photo

The Anti-Corruption Bureau, Pune, has arrested two officials from the BJ Medical College for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh, the police said on Thursday. The accused have been identified as senior assistant Jayant Chaudhary (49) and office superintendent Suresh Bonawale (53), they added.

According to the police, the complainant is a furniture supplier who had provided furniture worth ₹20 lakh to the college in 2023. The college administration had paid only ₹10 lakh, and the remaining amount was pending clearance.

To approve the clearance of the pending amount and process the bill quickly, the accused officials demanded a bribe of 13% of the pending amount. Accordingly, ₹1.30 lakh was demanded by them to proceed with the process quickly.

Regarding the matter, a complaint was made by the victim to the ACB on April 1. Following the complaint, ACB laid a trap. On April 2, the accused were found negotiating their demand and accepting the amount of ₹1 lakh.

As per the deal, Bonawale instructed the complainant to hand over the money to Chaudhary. Later, they both were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at the Bundgarden Police Station.
