The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday afternoon. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju presented it in the afternoon to discuss it in the House after the Question Hour. 8 hours have been set to discuss this bill. When this bill was introduced in Parliament, the opposition created a lot of uproar. The opposition has also demanded that the time of debate be increased to 12 hours. While presenting the bill, the government has given 5 assurances to Muslims.
Kiren Rijiju said that 97,27,772 applications were received regarding this bill, till date such a large number of applications have never been received regarding any bill. 284 delegations have presented their views to various committees. Those who oppose this bill with positive thinking will also support those who oppose it.
Government gave this assurance to Muslims
- While presenting the bill in Parliament, Kiran Rijiju assured Muslims that the bill does not have a provision for action against any mosque. This is just a matter of property. This bill has no relation with religious institutions.
- The government said that there is no provision for intervention in the management of any religious place or mosque in the Waqf Amendment Bill. There will be no change or intervention in it.
- The Waqf Amendment Bill has no provision for intervention in any religious activity. We will not interfere in the functioning of any mosque. The Waqf Board will remain under the law, nothing will be done against the law.
- Rijiju said that any officer above the collector rank will investigate the disputes related to government land and any disputed land. When we make Waqf property, no one can go to the tribal area and do this. This change is important. There is no provision to take any action against any mosque. The government said that there is no provision for intervention in the management of mosques in this bill.
- The government promised that out of the total 22 members of the council, a maximum of 4 members would be non-Muslim. 3 Members of Parliament including former officials will be elected. Members of Parliament can belong to any religion.
