The government has issued the outline of the Maharashtra Cyber Crime Security Corporation (MCCSC), which it claims will protect citizens, the state as well as private sector companies from cyber crimes and the threats related to them.

The corporation will be set up under the Companies Act 2013 with a Rs200 crore capital investment and 100% paid and subscribed capital. The government, in its order issued on Tuesday, approved the board of directors as well as the manpower for the corporation.

The Maharashtra Cyber Cell under the state police will continue to work independently after the formation of MCCSC, the state clarified.

The MCCSC will be headed by the additional chief secretary (Home) with ex-officio directors – additional chief secretary of the Finance Department or their nominee, additional chief secretary of the Planning Department or their nominee, the director general of police or their nominee, principal secretary of the Information Technology Department or their nominee and principal secretary (Special) in the Home Department.

The additional DG or special inspector general of police who is in charge of the Maharashtra Cyber Cell will be the managing director and chief executive of MCCSC. The state will also nominate three independent directors from the field of cybersecurity technology, from an institution that deals with the subject, and a legal expert who deals with cyber crimes.

The state has also given its approval for a 99-member team recruited for the functioning of the new entity. Besides this, the corporation can recruit or take the help of experts from finance and accounts, legal and company affairs, and skilled personnel from the field.
