A major railway accident occurred in the Barhet area of ​​Sahibganj district of Jharkhand early Tuesday. Two freight trains collided with a strong collision near NTPC gate, killing two people and injuring four others. The accident occurred at around 3:30 am when one goods train was standing on the track and the other was coming fast on the same track. The goods train from the front hit the standing train directly.

The collision was so tremendous that several bogies laden with engine and coal caught fire. The fire brigade team reached the spot and the work of extinguishing the fire is going on continuously. Due to the accident, two engines derailed and one engine has been completely damaged.

Drivers died on the spot

In this accident in Bhognadih area of ​​Barhet police station area, drivers of both the goods trains died on the spot. Four other people have been injured, who are being treated in the local hospital. Police and rescue teams are engaged in relief work on the spot.

NTPC had both freight trains and tracks

Kishore Tirkey, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Sahibganj, has confirmed that the collision was face-to-face and both trains were under the control of NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation). Eastern Railway spokesperson Kaushik Mitra said that the accident has nothing to do with the Indian Railways. The track on which the accident occurred is of NTPC and is mainly used for coal transportation.

This rail line connects Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station located in Bhagalpur district of Bihar to the Farakka Power Plant in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
