In Uttar Pradesh, now not only high speed vehicles will run on the expressway, but the victims of road accidents will also get immediate treatment. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave strict instructions to the officials at the State Road Safety Council meeting on Sunday and said that hospitals should be provided like food plaza on both sides of the expressway. His clear message was – If there is an accident on the road, there is no delay in treatment.
The Chief Minister insisted on further improvement of the facility of trauma center and ambulance in Mandal Hospitals. He also expressed displeasure at the liquor shops along the expressway and the highway. Not only directed to remove the shops, but also ordered their board to shorten. In the road safety meeting, he asked every department to work closely with mutual coordination so that the number of road accidents and deaths can be stopped.
The series of deaths will have to be stopped: statistics worrying
So far, 46,052 road accidents have occurred in Uttar Pradesh in 2024. Of these, 34,600 people were injured and more than 24,000 people lost their lives. Expressing serious concern over these figures, the Chief Minister said that every department will have to make such a plan so that the mortality rate can be controlled.
He said, “We have to work together. Can’t be delayed anymore.” Along with this, he instructed to identify black spots on all highways and major routes and immediately take corrective steps there.
Special road safety campaign will run in 20 districts
CM Yogi said that the number of road accidents is the highest in some districts, so a special campaign will be conducted there. These districts include Hardoi, Mathura, Agra, Lucknow, Bulandshahr, Kanpur Nagar, Prayagraj, Sitapur, Unnao, Barabanki, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly, Aligarh, Gautam Budhnagar, Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Badaun, Meerut and Bijnor.
He directed to ensure regular meetings of the Road Safety Committee at the district and division level. Especially he emphasized that there should be compulsory meeting every month in the districts and every three months at the divisional level.
Resentment expressed over negligence in the meeting
CM Yogi expressed displeasure over the Road Safety Committee of Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Saharanpur and Agra Mandal having only one meeting in a year. At the same time, he expressed satisfaction over four meetings in Basti, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Mirjapur. He instructed the officials of Balrampur, Firozabad, Gonda, Chandauli and Jaunpur to hold a meeting by the end of this week.
Traffic rules will now be part of books
CM Yogi also announced that traffic rules will now be made part of children’s education. Traffic rules will be added to the curriculum in schools of Basic and Secondary Education Department. Along with this, road safety activities will also be conducted in colleges and universities so that the youth can become aware of the rules from the beginning.
He instructed to take strictness especially in cases like high speed, drunk driving, driving on the wrong side, jumping red light and driving on mobile.
Direct action on daggamar and overloading
Buses and overloaded trucks without permits will no longer be seen on the roads. The Chief Minister clearly stated that effective action should be taken against Daggamar vehicles and overloading. Vehicles without permits coming from other states should be stopped on the border.
Also, by communicating with the transport associations, it should be covered that there are two drivers in long distance vehicles so that there are no accidents due to fatigue.
NHAI roads will now have a ‘camera armor’ of security
There is soon another relief news for those traveling on the National Highway in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi has directed that the number of crane, patrolling vehicle and ambulances should be increased on expressways and highways. He also expressed displeasure that only 4 out of 93 roads of NHAI have been installed at 4 CCTV cameras. Now cameras will also be installed on the rest of the roads so that the monitoring on road safety is strong.
This will not only make immediate action on accidents, but will also prevent violation of traffic rules. The Chief Minister believes that road safety can be strengthened by using technology. He also suggested that foot over bridge should be built in places where there is a continuous traffic pressure.
Do not run minors e-rickshaws, middlemen with RTO offices
Chief Minister Yogi also directed that the incidents of e-rickshaw running by minor children in urban areas be banned. It is dangerous for the safety of children as well as other passengers. He clearly said that RTO offices should be freed from middlemen.
A inspection campaign should be carried out from time to time to stop the fraud from people by middlemen. People should be made self -sufficient by giving information about digital services. This will also increase transparency and curb corruption.
Relief will be given from traffic jam, better management will be done
Traffic jam has become a major problem of every small and big city in the state today. Taking this issue seriously, Chief Minister Yogi instructed the officials to make the traffic management more systematic. He said that there is enough manpower in the state – Civil Police, PRD and Home Guards – which can be implemented in handling traffic.
Table top speed breakers should be made, especially outside schools, hospitals and main markets, so that vehicles run slow and reduce the chances of accidents. Along with this, maintenance should also be done from time to time in the correct position of traffic lights and signal.
Security will also be strengthened outside the school-college
CM Yogi also drew attention to the highest priority to the safety of students outside schools and colleges. He gave clear instructions that security personnel should be deployed outside the schools, which keep the traffic smooth and help children cross the road.
The opening of school in cities and traffic pressure increases during the holiday, which leads to the possibility of accident. A strict and strong plan should be made to curb it. The Chief Minister also suggested to the officials to prepare a special wing of the traffic police for the safety of the children.
People will also have to make aware, only then security will be completed
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also believes that it is not enough to make rules and strictness. Until the general public itself takes traffic rules seriously, accidents will not decrease. He asked the officials to conduct a large scale public awareness campaign regarding road safety.
People should be informed about traffic rules through programs in TV, radio, social media, school-college and village. Especially children and youth should be targeted and explained the importance of rules. Changes will begin with awareness.
There will be departmental coordination regarding road safety
Chief Minister Yogi instructed all departments related to road safety – transport, health, police, public work, education, and urban development – to establish mutual coordination and make a common action plan. He says that until every department does not contribute, the impact of any policy will not be seen at the ground level.
For example, if there is a pit on the road, the traffic police should be informed and the PWD immediately started improving it – such an integrated system can prevent accidents. He said that he should work with a team spirit avoiding departmental competition.
Smart traffic management system will be implemented in cities
The Yogi government is now preparing to implement smart traffic management system in major cities of Uttar Pradesh. Under this, traffic lights will be connected to the sensor, so that the flow of traffic will be automatically controlled. Along with this, AI-based cameras will identify those who break the rules and the challan will automatically generate.
This system will be implemented in the first phase in cities like Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Agra. This will not only reduce traffic jams, but will also increase the efficiency of the traffic police. With the smart traffic solution, the state’s image will lead to the model of ‘Digital India’ towards the state.
There will be analysis of root mapping and traffic data
Now traffic planning in the state will also be on scientific basis. CM Yogi has directed that root mapping and traffic data should be analyzed throughout the state. How many vehicles run on which route? At what time is the most traffic? Which areas are jammed repeatedly? All these information should be collected on the basis of data.
Through this data, a separate ‘road safety plan’ will be prepared for every district. With this, better decisions will be taken for traffic control. In a way, Uttar Pradesh is now moving towards data driving governance.
‘Road Safety Corridor’ to be built on highway and expressway
The state government is planning to develop a ‘road safety corridor’ on highways and expressways. This corridor will have emergency help booths, medical units, patrolling vehicles, and high-tech CCTV cameras every few kilometers. The aim is to immediately get information about any accident and the rescue team can reach the spot immediately.
Such a system is already on roads like Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and now UP will also make its expressway world class on the same lines. This will provide mental relaxation to passengers as well as safety.
Initiatives like ‘No Helmet, No Petrol’ will be promoted
CM Yogi also said that under the public awareness campaign, initiatives like ‘No Helmet, No Petrol’ and ‘No seat belt, no entry’ should be widely implemented. Instructions should be given to petrol pumps that if someone comes without a helmet, he should not be given petrol.
Such steps will not fear people but will increase awareness. The rules should be taken as a social responsibility. It is the responsibility of every citizen, not just the government, to contribute to road safety.
