The Portuguese police said on Tuesday that the authorities stopped a semi-pandube in the sea and seized 6.5 tonnes of cocaine.
The submarine seized in the Azores region was going towards the Iberian island. Portugal seized a total of 23 tonnes of cocaine during the 2024 financial year. It also includes the quantity seized on Tuesday. Portugal is a gateway to smuggled drugs in Europe. Drug smugglers are now using semi-pandubbis. They are also often called narco submarines. This semi-pandube is being used to avoid being caught during smuggling. This quantity of cocaine was seized by stopping a semi-pandubi in the Atlantic Ocean, 500 knots from the coast of Portugal. Five sailors were found on a semi-pandube used by an international network. Police said the Portuguese Navy and Air Force, the US Drug Enforcement Agency, the British National Crime Agency and the Spanish Army also contributed significantly to drug seizure.
