India Air pollution is still a serious issue. The situation is so bad that many cities of the country are in the grip of pollution even in winter. Recently a report of the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (Crea) has surfaced, which confirms this. After this report, concern has deepened about pollution in the country.
The Winter Ambient Air Quality Snapshot for India 2025 report also states which cities were clean in the winter season. According to the report, the city of Mizoram, India, was the best during the winter. During the winter season, there was an average level of PM 2.5.
238 cities were included
Let us tell you that this report of Crea analyzes data related to air quality in 38 cities. This analysis, which lasted from 1 October 2024 to 28 February 2025, showed that 173 cities out of 238 cities were more than the air quality fixed standards.

Why is Aizawl’s air clear?
The PM2.5 level in Aizawl (Mizoram) was recorded only 7 µg/m³, which is much lower than the national standard (40 µg/m³) of India. The credit for the clean air of Aizawl goes to its dense greenery, low industrial activity and limited number of vehicles.
6 cities of Karnataka also included
Karnataka tops this list. Six cities of this state are among the cleanest places. Clean air was recorded in cities like Chamarajanagar, Madikeri, Chikmagaluru and Shivamoga. These cities have dense forests, green hills and less industrial activities-due to which the air here is very clean.
Apart from this, Tirupur, Palakraparur and Rameswaram of Tamil Nadu are also among the cleanest cities in India. Due to coastal areas and regular sea winds, pollution levels in these cities were low.
