The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced new rules to make UPI transactions more secure and effective, which will be applicable from 1 April 2025. The purpose of this change is to prevent wrong transactions and improve the banking experience of users.
If your mobile number is inactive for a long time, then Paytm, Google Pay, PhonePe and bank accounts connected to it can be closed. Apart from this, a new upgraded version of Bhima App (BHIM) is being launched Bhima 3.0, in which many new facilities will be added.
Big changes in UPI: What will be new?
1. Inactive mobile number linked UPI accounts will be closed

Banks and UPI payment apps (Paytm, Google Pay, PhonePe etc.) will have to update “MNRL/DIP) every week.

If a mobile number is inactive for 3 months (calls, messages or data is not used), telecom companies can re -allot it.

In such a situation, UPI accounts and virtual payment addresses (VPA) will be closed.

You will always have to keep your bank registered mobile number active, otherwise your UPI account may be deactivated.
2. New restrictions on “Collecting Payment”

Now the “Collect Payment” feature will be available only to the big and verified traders.

The limit of collecting payment for common users has been done ₹ 2,000 per transaction.

This step has been taken to prevent fraud and unnecessary requests.

For the amount of more than ₹ 2,000, now only direct payment (UPI transfer) will be the option.
Bhima App 3.0: These 5 new facilities will be available from April
The new upgrade version of the Bhima App (BHIM UPI) run by NPCI will be launched from Bhima 3.0 April 2025.
1. Support in more than 15 languages
Bhima 3.0 will now be available in more than 15 languages of the country, so that more people will be able to use it easily.
2. Family Mode: Manage the whole family

Now users will be able to add family members to their UPI account.

You will be able to monitor the expenses of the whole family and can hand over the responsibility of payment to any member.

Advance notifications of bill payment will be available, so that no payment is missed.
3. Transaction possible on weak internet connection

Bhima will also work easily in areas with 3.0 weak networks.

It will also have the ability to work with limited features in offline mode.
4. Monthly expense dashboard

By going to the dashboard, you will be able to monitor your month -long expenses.

The app will distribute all your expenses into different categories (bills, shopping, rent, etc.), which will make budget planning easier.
5. ‘Bhima Vega’ service for traders

Traders will now be able to pay directly from the Bhima app, without any other app needed.

Traders will get the facility to accept fast payment and keep records.
NPCI’s new ‘Bhima Vishwas’ program
NPCI is preparing to launch a new scheme called ‘Bhima Vishwas’ soon.

Under this scheme, UPI transactions will be made more reliable in collaboration with Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Karnataka Bank and Union Bank.

This facility will be started to protect users from fraud and give safe transactions experience.
Keep these important things in mind:
If your mobile number has changed, then immediately update it to the bank and UPI apps.
The limit has been reduced to ₹ 2,000 to prevent misuse of UPI “Collect Payment”.
Bhima 3.0 will get new facilities, which will make UPI transactions and easier.
New features such as family mode, expense dashboard and offline payments will be available soon.
