Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A youth and his two friends were arrested for staging a fake abduction and demanding Rs 1 lakh ransom from his father in Bhanwarkuan police station on Wednesday. The prime accused, Satish Gupta, had borrowed money from several people but was unable to repay it.
To arrange the funds, he faked his own kidnapping with the help of his friends and called his father for ransom. ACP (Juni Indore) Devendra Singh Dhurveytold mediapersons that Shriram Gupta, a resident of Sidhi district, lodged a complaint on Tuesday after receiving a call from an unknown number claiming that his son had been abducted and demanding Rs 1 lakh for his release.
Worried, he alerted the police, stating that his son, who works at a flower shop in Sarwanand Nagar, was being held hostage. Acting swiftly, Bhanwarkuan police launched an investigation and reached the alleged crime scene, but locals denied witnessing any abduction.
Suspecting foul play, police traced the mobile locations of Satish and his friends, eventually tracking them down in the city. When questioned, the trio initially tried to mislead the police but later confessed to staging the abduction to extort money. Satish and his accomplices, Arush Arora of Prince Nagar and Tejveer Singh of Meharban Nagar, were arrested, and further investigations are underway.
