Mumbai: A Mumbai resident highlighted the issue of “illegal sale” of paan, cigarettes, and gutkha on scooty in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). The Mumbai man highlighted the issue on March 25, through an X post. He also shared the video of tobacco products being sold on Activa in the area.
The man, named Nikesh, posted the video on his X handle ‘NikeshPSha5729’. In the video, several people are seen purchasing these items. The user pointed out that this activity was allegedly being carried out with the help of the Municipal Corporation.

In an X post, the user stated, “on the footpath in front of BKC BDB with the help of the Municipal Corporation, paan, bidi, cigarettes, gutkha are being sold openly. The footpath is being encroached upon. Despite repeated complaints, no action is being taken.”
In response to the post, the Mumbai Police acknowledged the issue and stated that the matter has been informed to the BKC Police Station.

The Mumbai Police responded to the post, stating, “We have informed the B.K.C. Police Station.” Following this, the user shared another video highlighting illegal activities on the BKC footpath, showing a person selling paan, gutka, and cigarettes on the road. The user added, “Later sale is on,” drawing attention to the ongoing illegal activity.
Gutka And Paan Masala Was Banned In The Year 2012
As per the report by the National Library of Medicine on July 19, 2012, the government of Maharashtra imposed a ban on the manufacturing, storage, distribution, and sale of gutka and pan masala for one year.
This decision was made in response to the serious health risks posed by these products, which contain tobacco and other harmful substances linked to oral cancer and other health issues.
