Mumbai: Mumbai University on Thursday announced that it is set to establish a 45,000-square-foot Centre of Excellence in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at its School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in Kalyan. The centre, developed in collaboration with robotics firm Zenyutech Industries, will focus on advanced research, industry training, and skill development in robotics, automation, and AI-based applications.
The university has partnered with Zenyutech Industries, a leading company in the robotics sector, to develop the centre. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between both entities to facilitate joint research, training initiatives, and curriculum development. The centre will also introduce an MTech in Robotics, which will be available to students starting this academic year.
The postgraduate course will integrate advanced coursework with hands-on training using state-of-the-art robotic systems. The programme is designed to cater to students aspiring to work in robotics research, industrial automation, and AI-driven applications. Additionally, the centre will conduct workshops, seminars, and industry-oriented training sessions for students, researchers, and working professionals. These events will focus on emerging trends in robotics, AI, and automation, fostering collaboration between academia and industry.
According to university officials, the centre will also provide students and researchers with access to state-of-the-art robotic systems, automation tools, and AI-driven applications.
Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ravindra Kulkarni, emphasised the impact of the new centre on students and industry professionals. “This centre will not only enhance the learning experience for students but also strengthen our collaboration with industries seeking skilled professionals in robotics and AI. With this initiative, we aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry needs,” he said.
One of the key highlights of the centre will be its emphasis on practical training and skill development. Under the MoU, Mumbai University and Zenyutech Industries will jointly design certified training programmes in robotics programming and operations, ensuring that students and professionals acquire hands-on experience with real-world robotic applications. The centre will also provide an opportunity for researchers to work on industry-driven projects, helping them gain exposure to challenges in industrial automation.
A spokesperson from Zenyutech Industries said, “The robotics industry is evolving rapidly, and there is a strong demand for professionals with specialised skills in automation and AI. Through this partnership, we aim to equip students with industry-ready skills and contribute to the development of cutting-edge robotics solutions.”
University officials believe that this initiative will not only provide students with better career opportunities but also help industries recruit skilled professionals in the growing field of robotics and AI. The centre is expected to commence operations in the coming months.
