Kolkata: Following permission from Calcutta High Court’s Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday took out a protest rally at his citadel Tamluk in Midnapore against Speaker Biman Bandhopadhyay.

“On Wednesday Biman Bandhopadhyay showed me black flag at Baruipur. Today his effigy was burnt by our party’s legislators outside the Assembly. We will defeat Mamata Banerjee from the Bhabanipur constituency and Biman Bandhopadhyay from Baruipur constituency in the next Assembly elections,” said Adhikari.

Meanwhile, demanding resignation of Speaker Biman Bandhopadhyay, the saffron camp legislators protested outside the Assembly.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s MLA and Chief-Whip Shankar Ghosh along with other saffron camp MLAs jumped into the well and tore papers.

“In the Speaker’s constituency the Leader of Opposition’s car was attacked and water mixed with red chili powder was sprinkled. This government has failed to give protection to the citizens and we challenge to defeat TMC in the next Assembly election,” said Ghosh.

Notably, a rally was called by Adhikari at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas, during which Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters chanted slogans against Adhikari and allegedly hit his car with sticks.

However, Biman Bandhopadhyay said, “Even the people of Baruipur have the right to take out rallies. I have heard that they had police permission. By chanting slogans against me they are unnecessarily making me popular.”
