Thane: The Property Tax Department of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation has collected Rs 392 crores in property taxes in the twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli.
However, the KDMC has set its own target of ₹500 crores for the fiscal year 2024-2025. However, it could not reach that target. Moreover, the water taxes collected amount to ₹64 crores across the twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli.
According to the officials from the Tax Department, KDMC started the Abhaya Yojana from March 1, 2025, to March 15, 2025, to waive off 100 percent of interest or penalties.
The civic body said that it has started a recovery drive to collect dues from those who have not paid taxes for their respective properties. KDMC has taken stringent steps to recover arrears by proceeding with seizure and attachment provisions regarding property and disconnecting their water connections. Although, the Abhaya Yojana’s period has been extended till March 31.
KDMC officials said earlier that a total of 16 properties were scheduled for an auction at Acharya Atre Natyagrah, located at Shankar Rao Chowk in Kalyan West, past month (February 17), following compliance with attachment procedures. However, no one attended the auction.
Swati Kulkarni, a civic officer from the tax department of KDMC, said, “We held an auction program but people did not attend. Therefore, no auctions proceeded. However, we will keep it open for the next 21 days.”
According to tax department officials, they are appealing to property holders that the properties will be attached and auctioned if arrears are not cleared. KDMC officials urged people to cooperate with the KDMC and pay their arrears on time to avoid further action.
