PM Surya Ghar Free Power Plan: The number of electricity on the roof is continuously increasing and according to the information given by the government, it has crossed 10 lakhs so far. It is clear that solar panels have been installed on the roofs of more than 1 million houses in the country. It is noteworthy that in this government scheme, the central government not only provides free electricity up to 300 units, but also gives heavy subsidy.

1 million solar panels by 10 March

According to the information shared by the government, the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar initiative PM Surya Ghar Maafat Bijli Yojana or PMSGMBY has achieved a historic achievement by giving solar energy to 1 million houses by 10 March 2025. Let us tell you that under this government scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2024, a target has been set to install solar panels on the roofs of 1 crore houses by the year 2027.

While this scheme of the Modi government has made good progress in many states and especially Chandigarh and Daman and Diu have equipped their government buildings with 100 percent rooftop solar panels, while this scheme is becoming increasingly popular in states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu and people are taking advantage of it.

A subsidy of ₹ 4770 crore has been provided so far

The government had announced an investment of Rs 75,000 crore under PM Surya Ghar Free Power Scheme. In this, provision has been made to provide free electricity to 300 units with subsidy to those who install solar panels on the roof of their homes, making it popular. If we look at government data, 47.3 lakh applications have been received so far, which shows that a subsidy of Rs 4,770 crore has been distributed to 6.13 lakh beneficiaries through this initiative.

Free electricity up to 300 units, no mess of bills

The main objective of this scheme of the Modi government is to provide free electricity to 300 units to the beneficiaries. Under this scheme, solar panels are installed on the roof of the house, the government gives subsidy on the cost. This will not only end the hassle of electricity bill, but you will also be able to generate more electricity and sell it. If you talk about the cost of installing solar panels as per the plan, then the cost of 1 kW can be about 90 thousand rupees, 2 kWh cost about 1.5 lakh rupees and 3 kW costs up to Rs 2 lakh.

How much subsidy can you get?

On setting up a solar roof, the government directly transferred funds to the bank account. This reduces the burden of installing solar panels. The government provides a subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kW for electricity up to 2 kW, Rs 48,000 per kW for electricity up to 3 kW and Rs 78,000 per kW for electricity of more than 3 kW.

A few days after the launch of this scheme, the government updated that preparations are underway to change the rules related to it and under this, people applying under PM Surya Ghar Free Power Scheme can get subsidy (Free Electricity Scheme Subsidy) in just 7 days.
