The troubles of Satyendra Jain, who were PWD minister in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, have increased further. The Delhi Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered another new case against him.

Allegations: Satyendra Jain is accused of taking a bribe of 7 crore in a CCTV project of 571 crore.

What is the whole matter?

  • The Delhi government had sanctioned a project of Rs 571 crore to install 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras in all 70 assembly constituencies.
  • Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) was given the contract for this project.
  • BEL was fined Rs 16 crore due to delay in CCTV installation.
  • It is alleged that Satyendra Jain waived the fine of BEL by taking a bribe of Rs 7 crore.

How was the scam revealed?

ACB Joint Commissioner Madhur Verma said:

  • The scam was first revealed in a news report.
  • The report said that a provision of Rs 7 crore was made to bribe Satyendra Jain.
  • The ACB questioned a BEL official in the case, who confirmed the allegations and filed a detailed complaint.

What happened for a fine of 16 crores?

On August 23, 2019, media reports said:

  • Due to the delay in installing CCTV camera, the Delhi government imposed a fine of Rs 16 crore on BEL.
  • But later the fine was waived and a new contract was given to BEL to install 1.4 lakh more cameras.

Complainant claim:
A bribe of 7 crore was given through the same contractor, which received a contract to install an additional 1.4 lakh additional cameras.
The entire project was carried out in a cheap manner.
Many cameras were damaged at the time of handover PWD.
