The IPL match to be held on 6 April 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata is expected.
What is the reason?
- The police have refused to approve security for the match due to the Ram Navami ceremony.
- BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had announced that more than 20,000 processions would come out in West Bengal on this day, which will increase the need for security across the state.
- The BCCI has been informed about this and now the final decision is to be taken by the board.
Police expressed inability to provide security
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehashish Ganguly on Tuesday confirmed after two rounds of discussion with the city police that security approval for the match has not been given.
Snehashish Ganguly’s statement:
“The police have clearly stated that they will not be able to provide adequate protection on this day.
He also reminded that last year also had to resade an IPL match in Kolkata due to Ram Navami.
How can the match schedule be changed?
- This match will be played in Kolkata itself, but the date can be changed.
- There are double header matches (two matches a day) on 5 and 6 April.
- In such a situation, this match of April 6 can be done on April 5 and the match of April 5 can be shifted on 6 April.
- The final decision is to be taken by the BCCI.
IPL matches have been rescheduled before earlier
In the 2024 season also, the match of KKR and Rajasthan Royals (RR) was changed due to Ram Navami.
Even before this, the schedule of matches has been changed due to security reasons.
BCCI can easily change due to the flexible schedule of IPL.
