Nagpur: A First Information Report (FIR) filed at Ganeshpeth Police Station regarding the recent violence in Nagpur has revealed shocking details of misconduct against police personnel. According to the FIR, an accused inappropriately touched the uniform and body of an on-duty woman police officer from the RCP squad during the clashes.

The accused also made obscene gestures and misbehaved with several women police personnel, ANI reported citing the FIR. There are no reports confirming the identification of the accused or stating whether he was held by the cops.

Meanwhile, in response to the violent clashes of March 17, the city remains under tight security, with curfew still in place across 11 police station areas. While normalcy has returned to most parts of Nagpur, authorities have decided to keep restrictions in sensitive areas as a precautionary measure.

Heavy Security Deployment In Nagpur

The violence erupted during a protest organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The demonstration took an unexpected turn, leading to large-scale unrest. In response, police imposed strict security measures, including curfews and route marches, to prevent further incidents.

A heavy police force remains deployed in affected areas to maintain order. Intelligence teams are actively monitoring the situation to identify potential threats and prevent further disruptions. Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from spreading rumours that could escalate tensions.

CM Fadnavis Calls Violence A ‘Pre-Planned Conspiracy’

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the state Assembly on Tuesday, labeling the Nagpur violence as a “pre-planned conspiracy.” He linked the unrest to growing sentiments following the release of the movie Chhava, which has sparked discussions about Aurangzeb’s historical actions.

“The Chhava movie has intensified people’s anger against Aurangzeb, but it is essential to ensure Maharashtra remains peaceful,” Fadnavis stated. He strongly condemned the attacks on police personnel and assured strict action against those responsible.

Stone-Pelting & Targeted Attacks On Police

Speaking in the Assembly, Fadnavis highlighted that misinformation played a key role in escalating the violence. “Rumours were spread that religious items had been desecrated, misleading people and provoking violence. This appears to be a well-planned attack,” he said.

He further revealed that a group of around 80 people engaged in stone-pelting, deliberately targeting police officers. “A police officer was attacked with an axe, and three deputy commissioners were assaulted. Specific houses were targeted, and one Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) sustained severe injuries,” he added.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the violence and further arrests are expected as police examine CCTV footage and witness statements.
