Users have asked daring question to Grok, including, the reality behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree, Rahul Gandhi is Pappu?, even YouTuber Dhruv Rathee asked Grok about the Nagpur violence and shared the reply on his official social media account.
Dhruv Rathee: “Hello Grok, who is responsible for causing the riots in Nagpur?”
Grok’s Reply: “Hello! The riots in Nagpur that broke out on March 17, 2025, stemmed from a chain of events involving communal tensions. It started with a protest by Bajrang Dal, a Hindu right-wing group, near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in the Mahal area. They were demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and reportedly burned an effigy or photo of Aurangzeb along with a green cloth. Rumors then spread—fueled by social media videos—that the Quran had been desecrated, though Bajrang Dal denied this, claiming they only burned an effigy.”
“This sparked a violent backlash that evening around 7:30–8:40 PM, when large mobs, reportedly from the Muslim community, gathered in areas like Bhaldarpura and Mahal. They engaged in stone-pelting, arson, and vandalism, targeting vehicles, homes, and businesses, many identified as Hindu-owned. The riots saw over 40 vehicles burned, 15 police officers injured, and significant property damage. Maharashtra’s CM Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde called it a “pre-planned conspiracy,” citing targeted attacks and prior sabotage of CCTV cameras.”
“So, responsibility lies with multiple actors: Bajrang Dal’s provocative protest lit the fuse, while the subsequent rumor-driven mob violence, possibly orchestrated by opportunists, escalated it into full-scale riots. Police are still investigating the key instigators, with over 50 arrests made so far. It’s a messy mix of communal friction and exploitation of outrage.”
