Sunil Phulari, IPS officer and Special Inspector General (IG) for Kolhapur and five other districts, was honoured with the Suryadatta Suryabhushan National Award 2025. This prestigious accolade was awarded for his excellence in leadership in law enforcement and service to the nation.

Phulari, renowned for his unwavering commitment to community welfare, law enforcement and leadership, received the award for his exemplary contributions to public service. The award ceremony was followed by a special interaction session under the Indian Knowledge System, where Phulari shared his extensive experience and knowledge with students, leaving a lasting impression on them.

He encouraged students to reflect on their roles in shaping the future, stressing that success is not solely about personal achievement but about contributing to society’s greater good. Drawing on his long career in law enforcement, Phulari emphasised the importance of serving society with integrity and dedication.

During the programme, Phulari engaged in a thoughtful interaction with the students, where he not only shared his experiences but also answered their questions. He addressed various queries, providing valuable insights into leadership, law enforcement and social responsibility. His thoughtful responses resonated with the younger generation, offering practical advice and inspiration. Phulari encouraged students to think critically, stay committed to their goals and actively contribute to society’s improvement. Phulari also spoke briefly about policing, law enforcement and the relationship between the police and the public. He enlightened students on the evolving nature of crime, particularly with the rise of technology and social media, highlighting cybercrime. He specifically emphasised the importance of community policing, public trust and initiatives for better police-public engagement, along with the role of social media in modern policing. He touched on common cyber threats, such as digital fraud and financial crimes and discussed safe internet practices and legal recourse for cybercrimes. Additionally, he explained the role of police in digital forensics and cybersecurity.

Addressing concerns about women’s safety, Phulari explained the legal provisions in place to protect women and encouraged students to contribute to gender sensitisation. He also provided career guidance and motivation for those interested in law enforcement. Overall, his session was highly engaging, insightful and relevant to the students’ academic and professional aspirations.

During the interaction, Professor Dr Sanjay Chordiya, Founder President and Chairman of Suryadatta Education Foundation, delivered an inspiring message to the students.
