‘Chhava Movie Has Ignited People’s Anger Against Aurangzeb’: Maha CM Fadnavis On Nagpur Violence |

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called the recent violence in Nagpur a ‘pre-planned conspiracy’ and linked the unrest to rising sentiments after the release of the movie Chhava.

Addressing the Assembly on Tuesday, he said, “The Chhava movie has ignited people’s anger against Aurangzeb, but despite this, everyone must ensure that Maharashtra remains peaceful.” He strongly condemned the attack on police personnel and assured that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators.

‘Appears To Be A Well-planned Attack’: Fadnavis On Nagpur Clashes

Speaking in the Assembly, Fadnavis stated that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal had organised protests in Nagpur, which were disrupted by misinformation. “Rumors were spread that religious items had been desecrated. This appears to be a well-planned attack,” he said.

He revealed that a crowd of around 80 people was involved in stone-pelting, deliberately targeting police officers. “A police officer was attacked with an axe, and three deputy commissioners were assaulted. Certain houses were specifically targeted, and one DCP was severely injured,” he added.

Rumours Fueling The Violence

Fadnavis emphasized how false rumours played a major role in escalating tensions. “Rumours were spread that a religious symbol on a grave sheet was desecrated. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands,” he stated.

To control the situation, authorities have registered five criminal cases and imposed prohibitory orders in 11 police station areas. Additionally, five units of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been deployed, Fadnavis informed.

Eknath Shinde Calls It a Conspiracy

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also spoke on the matter, stating that the violence appeared to be a conspiracy to incite communal tensions. “True patriotic Muslims will never support Aurangzeb. People should not attempt to provoke violence between two communities,” he said.

He assured that the state government would take the strictest action against those responsible. “The culprits will not be spared. No one in Maharashtra will tolerate support for Aurangzeb,” Shinde added.

Curfew & Arrests In Nagpur

Violence erupted in Nagpur’s Mahal area late on Monday night after rumours spread that a religious text had been desecrated during a protest demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

Following the clashes, law enforcement detained 50 individuals and registered multiple FIRs. A curfew has been imposed in the affected areas to prevent further unrest. Authorities continue efforts to restore normalcy and prevent future incidents.
