South Korean actress Lee El has become the first K-drama star to voice her two cents in the raging scandal surrounding late actress Kim Sae-ron and superstar Kim Soo Hyun. While she did not take names, she took an indirect dig at Soo Hyun and extended her support to the deceased actress.

On Tuesday (March 18), Lee El took to her X handle to pen a note in Korean language, which roughly translates to: “A nine-year-old is pushed around by their parents because they don’t know anything, and a 15-year-old is treated like a gold digger because they know everything about the world.”

Though she did not name or tag the actors involved in the controversy, netizens were convinced that she extended her support to Sae-ron through the post.

For those unversed, Sae-ron died by suicide at her Seoul residence on February 16. Post her funeral, members of her family claimed that Soo Hyun was in a relationship with the late actress when he was in his 30s and she was only 15. They also accused the superstar of pressurising her to repay a 700 million won penalty, which pushed her to the brink of helplessness and depression.

However, the Queen of Tears’ star’s agency denied all the claims, and added that though personal pictures and letters were shared, Soo Hyun never dated Sae-ron when she was a minor.

Soo Hyun, who was once the biggest name in the K-drama world, is now at the receiving end of severe backlash, with people calling for complete boycott of his shows. The actor has also lost several brand endorsement deals worth millions, including one by Prada.
