Maha Dy CM Eknath Shinde’s Explosive Remark On Clashes; Assures Strict Action

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde alleged that the violence in Nagpur was part of a larger conspiracy. Nearly 50 suspected rioters have been taken into police custody so far and authorities have imposed curfew in several areas, including Pachpavali, Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Shantinagar, Lakadganj, Sakkardara, Imamwada, Nandanvan, Kapilnagar and Yashodharanagar to prevent further unrest.

Shinde revealed that petrol bombs were used during the riots, saying that the attack on cops was particularly concerning. “It is unfortunate that even the police were targeted. All of this appears to be a well-planned conspiracy. Strict action will be taken, and I urge everyone to maintain peace,” he added.

Shinde condemned the violence and stated that true patriotic Muslims would not support Aurangzeb. “Such a brutal incident has never occurred before. The protesters are fighting for the pride of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Those who support Aurangzeb should read history and watch the movie ‘Chhava’,” he remarked.

He further described the Nagpur incident as unfortunate and confirmed that police are investigating the matter. “Four DCP-level officers were injured in the clashes. The Chief Minister is personally reviewing the situation. Police have stated that many people involved in the violence came from outside Nagpur,” he said.

Curfew Imposed In Several Parts of Nagpur

Curfew has been enforced in multiple areas of Nagpur following violent clashes over the demand to relocate Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb from Maharashtra. The tomb, located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district (formerly Aurangabad), has been at the centre of controversy.

The violence erupted on March 17 when supporters of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal gathered near Shivaji Maharaj’s statue in Nagpur’s Mahal area. The protest, which called for the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb, quickly escalated into chaos as demonstrators clashed with law enforcement, hurled stones and set multiple vehicles on fire.

Authorities confirmed that at least four civilians were injured in the clashes, while over a dozen police personnel also sustained wounds. The police have so far detained 50 individuals in connection with the riots, and investigations are ongoing. Local police and other authorities remains on high alert, with additional forces deployed to ensure stability and prevent further violence.
