Vile Parle Tragedy: JCB Accident Claims Life of 55-Year-Old Man Near Road Construction Site | Representational Image

Mumbai: A 55-year-old unidentified man, who was sleeping near a road construction site, was killed when a JCB driver reversed the heavy vehicle, running over him. Both, the driver and the cleaner, fled after the accident, but were later traced by the Juhu police. A case has been filed against them for causing death by negligence and a notice was served to them, said the officials.

The mishap occurred on Sunday at a road construction site at SV Road in Vile Parle West. According to the FIR, on March 16 around 3.20pm, the Juhu police personnel, who were at Bharucha Baugh for nakabandi, were approached by a man, who informed them that a person was bleeding profusely and lying near the Golden Tobacco Company, SV Road.

The personnel arrived at the scene and found the victim lying unconscious. It seemed that a heavy vehicle had run over his head, said the officials, adding that he was taken to Cooper Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Subsequently, the police examined the CCTV footage and found that a JCB was working at the accident spot when the victim was sleeping nearby. As per the visuals, the driver reversed the vehicle and its rear wheel ran over him. Later, he along with the cleaner fled the scene without providing any medical assistance.

The police managed to trace the JCB and identified the driver as Santram Pal, 38, a resident of Andheri West, and the cleaner as Datta Shinde, 34, from Vile Parle West.
