Health experts and central government have advised to avoid cold drinks and caffeine -rich beverages in summer as they can cause water deficiency in the body.

Drinking cold drinks during summer days makes the body feel cold, but its long -term effects can be negative. Carbonated soft drinks contain excessive amounts of sugar and caffeine, affecting the body’s water balance system.

Major side effects of cold drink:

  1. Dehydration (lack of water) – Caffeine and sugar present in them remove water from the body quickly, which can cause dehydration problems.
  2. Threat of obesity and diabetes -Drinking cold drinks in high amounts can increase weight and increases the chances of type-2 diabetes.
  3. Impact on digestive system – Caronated beverages can promote gastric problems, acidity and blotting.
  4. Inverse effects in summer – When the body needs more water in summer, cold drinks can reduce the functionality of the body contrast.

Government warning and expert advice

The central government has issued a health alert in view of the rising heat, which advises people to stay away from cold drinks and caffeine -containing beverages. National Program on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH) Has given some necessary suggestions to protect against the effects of scorching heat.

  • Red Alert: Odisha and Jharkhand

What to do to stay healthy in summer?

  1. Drink lukewarm water – It helps to control body temperature.
  2. Eat fresh fruit juice – Coconut water, shikanji, vine syrup and fresh fruit juice are beneficial in summer.
  3. Take a light and nutritious diet -Eat salads, curd and green vegetables instead of fried things.
  4. Avoid going straight in the sun – Use an umbrella, hat or wet cloth when needed.
  5. Avoid caffeine and sugar – Avoid tea, coffee and more sweet beverages.
