Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday visited Furfura Sharif at Hooghly to attend an Iftar party.
Talking to the media, Mamata said that her visit to Furfura Sharif is being commented as ‘appeasement politics’ ahead of 2026 Assembly elections.
“When I went to Kashi Viswanath no comments were made. I want to make it clear that I also attend Christian festivals and participate in Gujrati’s dandi dance. I go to Gurudwaras and I also attend Roza, iftars and Eid celebrations. I perform Kali puja at my residence. Bengal is a place where people of all communities stay together. It is a place of communal harmony. Just like I wished everyone in Holi I wish everyone Ramadan and pray that everyone’s prayer gets answered,” said Mamata.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that ahead of elections Mamata visits Furfura Sharif.
“Ahead of the 2016 Assembly elections she didn’t visit Furfura Sharif but otherwise ahead of every election she goes to Furfura Sharif,” said Adhikari.
India Secular Front (ISF) MLA Naushad Siddiqui said, “I have also received an invitation to attend the programme and only time will tell whether I will attend the same or not.”
