Senior IPS Officer Manish Shankar Sharma Passes Away; Last Rites In Bhopal On March 17 |

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Special Director General of Police Manish Shankar Sharma passed away during treatment in Delhi, late Sunday on night (March 16, 2025).

His mortal remains were brought to Bhopal by flight at around 8 am and were kept at his E-5 residence for his last rites.

The last rites will be performed in Bhopal on Monday (March 17, 2025).

Manish Shankar was the son of Special DG (Rail) and former Chief Secretary Kripashankar Sharma.

Manish Shanker Sharma was a senior IPS officer, serving as Additional Director General of Police.

Manish Shankar Sharma was a 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer who served in several key positions in Madhya Pradesh.

Hails from Narmadapuram

Originally from Narmadapuram, Sharma held the position of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Raisen, Satna, Chhindwara, and Khandwa districts.

Educational Qualifications

SDG Police Sharma held a Masters in International Affairs and Public Policy from the University of California specializing in international security & counter terrorism.

Served across 4 continents

Officer Sharma had a diverse experience of 25 years with the Government, having served across 4 continents.

He served in different fields like – Law Enforcement, Counter Terrorism, Diplomacy, UN Peacekeeping in Europe and ensuring Transportation Security in India. 

In 1997-98, he worked under the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he trained local police officers.

He also served as the Security Director of the Airports Authority of India and as the Director of the Tea Board of India.

Received special award by Mayor, San Diego

He was honored with a special award in San Diego, California, where Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer declared July 20 as “Manish Shankar Sharma Day.” He also received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives.
