Ranya Rao Gold Smugggling Case: Kannada actress Ranya Rawal, arrested in the gold smuggling case, has once again made serious allegations against DRI (Revenue Intelligence Directorate) officials. Ranya has accused the DRI that during interrogation he was slapped, not given food and the DRI officials forced him to sign the vacant documents.
In a letter to the Additional Director General of DRI, Ranya described himself as innocent and said that he has been implicated in a false case. Kannada actress Ranya Rao, daughter of a senior police officer, was arrested by DRI on March 4, 2025 from Kempe Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru. She was trying to smuggle 14.8 kg from Dubai. The price of this gold is around 12 crores.
Letter sent by Chief Jail Superintendent
In a letter sent through the Chief Superintendent of Parappa’s Aghara Jail, Ranya claimed that he was arrested from inside the aircraft and the DRI arrested him without giving him a chance to clarify. I was given physical torture from being taken into custody to being produced in court. The officers I know was slapped 10-15 times. Despite repeated beating, I refused to sign the statement prepared by him.

Even before this, when Ranya was presented in the Special Economic Offenses Court, the court asked him many questions. The court asked the actress, did you face any difficulty? The actress then accused the DRI officials of mentally harassing the crying in the court. The court then asked Ranya, “Did you get medical treatment?” In response to this question, the actress claimed in trembling voice that she faced mental harassment.
