Navi Mumbai: Two days after a 38-year-old woman jumped from her 29th-floor flat in Panvel after pushing her 8-year-old daughter to death, the mother of the deceased has filed a police complaint against her son-in-law for abetment to suicide. She has alleged that her daughter’s extreme step was driven by continuous harassment and mental torture due to her husband’s extramarital affair.

The deceased, Maithili Ashish Dua (38), lived in the Aura Tower of Marathon Nexzone Housing Complex in Palaspe, Panvel, with her husband Ashish Dua (41) and their daughter Myra (8).

About The Case

On Wednesday morning around 8 AM, Ashish, a civil contractor, had gone into the bathroom when Maithili allegedly pushed him out of the bedroom and locked the door from inside. Moments later, she threw Myra from the 29th-floor window before jumping herself, leading to their instant death.

Following the incident, the Panvel City Police initially registered a case against Maithili for the murder of her daughter. Ashish Dua, in his statement to the police, claimed that Maithili suffered from mental illness and was undergoing treatment. “He alleged that she had stopped taking her prescribed medication, which could have triggered her actions,” senior police inspector Nitin Thakare from Panvel City police station said.

“According to Maithili’s mother, Neeta Devaraikar, her son-in-law had an extramarital affair and constantly harassed her daughter. She alleged that Ashish often pressured Maithili and their daughter to leave the house and even threatened to kill them. This persistent abuse allegedly led Maithili to take the extreme step of ending both her and her daughter’s lives,” Thakare added. As per the allegations, the police booked the husband of the deceased lady for abetment to suicide
