Delhi Capitals have appointed Indian all -rounder Akshar Patel as their new captain for IPL 2025. Akshar has been a part of the Delhi franchise for a long time and has been playing for the team since 2019. In this season, he overtook KL Rahul in the captaincy race, which Delhi Capitals bought in the mega auction last year.
Ritten in 16.50 crores, reward of spectacular performance
- Delhi Capitals retained Akshar Patel for Rs 16.50 crore.
- So far, 976 runs and 62 wickets have been taken in 82 IPL matches.
- On being made the new captain of the team, KL Rahul congratulated on social media and wrote:
“Congratulations Bapu (Akshar Patel), best wishes for the journey ahead and always with you.”

Akshar Patel’s captaincy experience
Although Akshar does not have much experience of IPL captaincy, he has captained the Gujarat team in domestic cricket.
- Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy led Gujarat in 2024-25.
- The Indian has played the role of vice -captain in the T20 team.
- Recently, the Champions Trophy performed brilliantly with the bat and ball, where he scored 109 runs and took 5 wickets.

On being made the captain of Delhi Capitals, Akshar Patel said:
“This is a great respect for me. I am thankful to the franchise owners and colleague staff that they expressed confidence in me. ”
The team consists of experienced players like KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Faf du Plessi and Mitchell Starc. Now it has to be seen how far the letters can take the team under their captaincy.
“I have learned a lot as a cricketer and now I consider myself ready to lead this team.”
